India here I come!

Okay so I'm diving in head first, to a summer full of Interior Design. I am ready to be fully immersed in the unique culture of the exotic land of India! My task, design a hotel that celebrates the true essence of Calcutta, India. Although this is only a fictional simulation project, I plan on taking it as far as I possible can. I'm not looking for a cliche tourist attraction that represents the Indian stereotype. There is a true story to be told of this "City of Joy" and I plan on discovering it!

Thoughts to Think About . . .

"Education has not taken place unless a change in behavior results"
- Alfred North Whitehead

As the semester comes to an end this thought remains dear to my heart. I have stretched myself this semester farther then I could ever imagine. As graduation lingers in the back of my mind I can't help but reflect on the events that have occurred. We are always being tested in one way or another, because the truth is school never really ends, and I have come to the realization that I never want it to. I never want to come to the point where I stop learning new things, where the pressure the world is suddenly off my shoulders. Life can seem scary and difficult at times, but I love the fact that we are constantly changing and evolving. No matter what happens in life this will always remain true.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish . . .

My Seussical Masterpiece is finally complete and handed over to a child to enjoy and color all over! If I ever see another piece of cardboard again I think I may scream.

Is this life or a circus act?

Well it's approaching the end of the semester and just when I see the light at the end of the tunnel, projects hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm juggling like crazy! Doctor Seuss in one corner, Frank Gehry in another, and Film Noir lingering over my head! Oh, and I see India approaching my distant future . . . when will it all end??

Thoughts to Think About . . .

Criticize me if you will, but putting up walls is just a figment of your imagination. They come when you don't want to face reality. It's a waste of time and not worth it! You build them up thinking you'll be strong and safe in the long run. But in reality they just become a hindrance you have to face sooner or later. Life will go a lot smoother when you stop trying to fight it.

Design Philosophy

I see things in a different light.
I am curious, and always want to know more about what life has in store.
Design is the vehicle that allows me to express my creativity, and capture the raw edginess of the space.
Through research of new ideas I am able to look at different perspectives and gather data.
It is extremely important to follow your instincts, and to believe in your potential.
Through balance, rhythm, and harmony I am able to bring out the true spirit of the space.

Thoughts to Think About: Dream a little dream . . .

It's funny how dreams can seem so real, how thoughts or conversations throughout the day can manipulate into your subconsciousness. The fiction can mix with the nonfictional creating a completely different dream world.

Welcome to the Innovation Age

Creative problem solvers unite!
Time to take off running . . .

sore, sore, sore . . . I'm not invincible!?

I am so out of shape that the least bit of strenuous exercise sends me over the edge of pain!
. . . . dumpster diving . . . lifting bolts of fabric. . . bike riding. . . and tennis don't make a good combination for one day, but overall I would say it was very productive one. I now have a living room full of cardboard that will soon become my Seussical masterpiece!

Round Two

So. . . who is this Dr. Seuss guy and what makes him the authority on what children like?

Well its that time again, round two in furniture design! It's time to break out the cardboard and become a Cartonniste inspired by the beloved book "One fish, Two fish."

Complex . . . yes
Confusing . . . yes
Whimsical . . . . definitely
Ideas? . . . none

Time to start researching!
